Massage therapy licensing guidelines: Oklahoma

Oklahoma is currently unregulated as far as state-mandated licensing guidelines for massage therapists are concerned. However, the Oklahoma chapter of the American Massage Therapy Association is currently lobbying for one state guideline to regulate licensing procedures for all massage therapists in Oklahoma. However, for the time being, many communities in Oklahoma have set up their own standards to license aspiring massage therapists within their boundaries.

For instance, Oklahoma City requires that the Health Department oversee licensing procedures of massage therapists. All massage therapists in Oklahoma City must be at least 18 years old, provide a physical description of themselves, pass a criminal background check, obtain at least 500 hours of massage therapy from an approved program or school and pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodyworks (NCETMB).

Lawton classifies massage parlors as an adult-oriented business and regulates it from the set of statutes that oversee these types of businesses.

Claremore requires health department inspections and proper zoning for massage therapy businesses. Additionally, the city mandates that all massage therapists must be at least 21 years of age and they must provide 2 full-face photographs of themselves, pass a criminal background check, provide certification of graduation from a massage therapy program and present proof of a clear medical examination.

Stillwater guidelines insist that massage therapists be educated in the field of massage therapy with at least 500 hours of coursework from an approved school or program, provide 2 photographs for identification purposes, disclose criminal background information for the past 5 years, be at least 18 years old, pass a medical examination and meet general health codes with their businesses.

All Oklahoma escorts who wish to become massage therapists in the state are encouraged to check with their local city officials in order to determine the requirements in their own location.
