Massage therapy licensing guidelines: New Miexico

Escorts in New Mexico who wish to become licensed massage therapists must meet certain licensing guidelines. The licensing guidelines are relatively standard in New Mexico, and they are much like other states in the U.S. Escorts and other individuals who wish to become a licensed massage therapist must meet education and testing eligibility guidelines (among other criteria) in order to become licensed. The massage therapy licensing guidelines for New Mexico include:

  • Massage therapy licensing applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Massage therapy licensing candidates must be able to provide proof of a high school education through a high school diploma (or the equivalent).
  • All applicants must present a head-shot photograph that is 2 inches by 2 inches. The photo can be no older than 6 months old at the time of application.
  • Candidates must submit the non-refundable application fee at the time of license application.
  • Applicants must send in a completed, legible application form. The form may be typed or filled in with black ink. The application must be mailed to the New Mexico Massage Therapy Board. Faxed applications will not be accepted.
  • Candidates must provide evidence of CPR and First Aid certifications. Four hours of coursework are required for each certification. Certifications must be provided by entities endorsed or approved by the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.
  • Applicants must have completed at least 650 hours of massage therapy education from a board-approved program, school or university. The board regulates minimum standards for program curriculums. Approved programs must provide at least:
    • 165 hours of Anatomy or Physiology courses
    • 150 hours of Massage Therapy courses
    • 75 hours of General Instruction (including business theories, hydrotherapy, ethics, first aid and CPR)
    • 260 hours of Electives that cover various aspects of massage therapy
    • Evidence of completion of such a program must be provided in the form of official transcripts sent directly from the school, university or program
  • Candidates must arrange for official passing test scores to be sent to the New Mexico Massage Therapy Board. Candidates must have passed the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCETMB), the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage (MCETM) or the Massage and Bodywork Licensing Examination (MBLEx).
  • Applicants must pass New Mexico's jurisprudence examination prior to licensing. The examination is an open book test, and a test score of 70 percent is required to pass.
  • Approved licensed massage therapists must display their licenses in obvious locations for clients to see.
  • Massage therapy licenses must be renewed every two years. At least 16 hours of continuing education courses are required for renewals.
