The state of Kentucky requires massage therapists to be licensed by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Massage Therapy in order to practice their trade within the state boundaries. Escorts who wish to become massage therapists must obtain education, pass national examinations and provide sufficient answers on the application. Here are the general guidelines necessary to become licensed as a massage therapist in Kentucky:
Applicants must be 18 years old or older.
Massage therapist license applicants must completely fill out and submit the application form along with a non-refundable application fee.
Applicants must possess good moral character.
Massage therapist license applicants must complete and provide transcripts for at least 600 hours of supervised instruction from a board-approved massage therapy program or school. Classes must include subjects such as anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, business practices, ethics, massage theory, massage therapy techniques and many more.
Applicants must provide official passing scores from the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodyworks or other examinations that meet the criteria set forth by the Kentucky Board of Licensure for Massage Therapy.
Massage therapist license applicants from other states may be granted licensure if their previous state license guidelines were equivalent or similar in structure to Kentucky's requirements. Applicants' licenses must be in good standing.
Continuing education is required for license renewal every two years. At least 24 hours of continuing education credit is required.
Licenses may be revoked or denied for fraudulent activity (either as a practitioner or an applicant), conviction of a felony or for engaging in sexual contact or misconduct with a client.
