Massage therapy licensing guidelines: Delaware

In Delaware, the Delaware Board of Massage and Bodywork regulate licensing guidelines and restrictions. Escorts wishing to incorporate massage therapy into their work can choose from two different levels of expertise. Delaware offers registration as a Certified Massage Technician (which requires 300 hours of coursework and an approved application) and a Licensed Massage Therapist. To become a licensed massage therapist, you must meet these guidelines:

  • Massage therapists must be at least 18 years old to apply.
  • Applicants must complete the application, sign it and have it notarized. Submission of an application fee is also required.
  • Applicants must arrange for an official score report (with passing scores indicated) to be sent from the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
  • Applicants must submit copies of their CPR certification cards.
  • Massage therapists must arrange for their official transcripts to be sent to the Delaware Board of Massage and Bodywork verifying their completion of an approved program from a school of massage. Successful completion requires at least 500 hours of course work (100 hours of anatomy and physiology classes and 300 hours of technique and theory of massage or bodywork therapy).
  • If licensed in another state, applicants must require the states they are licensed in to send verification of their licenses in good standing.
  • Licensed massage therapists must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years.
  • Previous felony, misdemeanor or criminal offense conviction necessitates the conducting of a criminal background check prior to the issuances of a license.
  • Previous prostitution-related convictions or convictions for violent crime may be cause for license revocation or denial.
  • A massage therapist's license may be revoked due to fraudulent information on the application or excessive drug or alcohol abuse prior to the application process or afterward.
