Massage therapy licensing guidelines: Connecticut

Massage therapy is an excellent skill for an escort to learn. The laws in Connecticut require that anyone who wishes to become a massage therapist must become licensed in order to practice her or her trade legally. Licensing regulations are overseen by the Department of Public Health and Addiction Service. Use these guidelines to learn more about becoming licensed as a massage therapist in Connecticut:

  • Massage therapists must be a graduate of a board- or COMTA-accredited massage school, having completed at least 500 hours of course work. Online massage therapist educations are not accepted. (COMTA=Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation.)
  • Massage therapists must pass the National Certification Examination for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. In order to become licensed, verification of passage must be presented to the Department of Public Health & Addiction Service.
  • Massage therapists must submit a notarized, completed application. A photo of the applicant along with the application fee (money order or bank check) must accompany the application.
  • The applicant's massage school must send verification of completion of massage therapy education to the Department of Public Health & Addiction Service.
  • Applicants from other states must coordinate that verification be sent from other states he or she is licensed in.
  • Massage therapists must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education credit every 4 years in order to retain his or her license.
  • Only licensed massage therapists may use the terms: "massage therapist", "licensed massage therapist", "massage practitioner", "massagist", "masseur" and "masseuse."
  • Illegal activities can cause revocation of a massage therapy license. Examples include:
    • Abusive or excessive use of drugs, alcohol, narcotics or chemicals can be cause for license revocation.
    • Fraudulent entries on one's application or in client records can result in license revocation.
